When preparing for holiday travel, consider the following tips to organize your trip:
{This list of tips was compiled from family members who have traveled extensively during the holidays! Some of these were learned the hard way…}
- For car travel, check the car top carrier to ensure it is still waterproof a few days before departure
- Don’t put bows onto presents until you reach your destination
- Book your pet sitter/boarding early before they fill up
- Charge electronic devices ahead of time
- Use a checklist for kids, so they can pack themselves
- Pack the items you will use first on the top of the suitcase or in your carry on
- Pack snacks and drinks to save time & money while traveling
- Don’t forget cell phone and other electronics chargers
- If you have multiple destinations, pack separate bags for each location so you don’t have to unpack everything at the first location
- For air travel, allow enough time at the airport in case gate changes or other surprises await
- For a lengthy car trip, have frequent stops so everyone can stretch their legs
- Write out a packing list ahead of time or have a designated spot to place items that you need to take with you
- Keep a plastic tub in your vehicle that contains an emergency kit, in case of bad weather
