Did you know that you can hire a professional organizer to consult with you about your space without hiring them to organize the whole space for you? I recently had a client who did just that. With the challenges of a tiny space, a small budget and an overflow of paperwork, this husband/wife duo sought the help of a professional organizer. First, we did an overall assessment of the home and organizational systems (because there are multiple "problem spots"). The client(s) decided that the office area was the biggest challenge. Here is a before photo of the office: I met with both husband and wife together for the hands-on portion. We talked through the space issues, flow of paper processing, furniture placement/function and tackled a few stacks of papers that had landed in the office area. At the end of one session, we had made tremendous progress toward taming the paper piles and setting up new processing systems. At the end of the session, I gave them guidance about what steps to take to finish the job. I received a follow up e-mail entitled "Thanks for all of your help!" with this photo attached: Photos like this make my heart happy. I consider it a successful project when the client takes what I'm teaching them and finishes the job. Our mission is to help people get organized and stay organized. Our mission is not to work hands-on with the client for every moment of every project. Their office space is so much more functional and organizational systems are now in place to handle incoming mail and paperwork.
