The main struggle with jewelry is that it seems to end up everywhere, and then we can't find what we are looking for.  That's why it is important to organize it.

Everything should have a home

Your jewelry should have a home, so you can find what you want. For earrings, a good habit is to always place the back on the earring when you take it off. If you don't, you will probably be looking everywhere for that back next time you want to wear it.

A good option for when you don't have time right away to put it where it goes is a cute little plate to sit on the top of your dresser. Then, there's one place that your jewelry goes, and whenever you feel like it, you organize them back out into where they actually belong.

Storage Options

There are now jewelry organizers that you can hang on the wall. These are great because you can see what you have at a glance.

Jewelry boxes work for storage, but we usually outgrow them. We love these trays from the Container Store. You can organize all of your jewelry into these little trays, and then you can store it in the top drawer of your dresser so you can keep the top of your dresser clean.

Within the trays, you can organize your jewelry by color. Place the gold together, the silver together, the black together, the purples together, and so on. It's best to put one pair of earrings per spot in the tray, so you can really see what you have and easily tell if one earring is missing from the pair. You also use these for rings and bracelets.

For necklaces—especially longer necklaces—it's best to hang them so you can see them. We love to hang jewelry organizers on a wall in the closet. When you walk into the closet to pick out your clothes, you can see all your necklaces and choose one you want to wear that day. This makes it really easy to keep it organized.

There are thousands of options, so pick whatever works best for you. The key is to keep up with it and to have a home to put it. Otherwise, you'll soon be wondering: "Where did it go?"
