It’s the beginning of spring. The weather starts to turn nice. Everybody starts to feel happier, more cheerful. That’s a great time to declutter and organize!
Where to Start:
Start with the area that bothers you the most. If you wake up in the morning and you look around your bedroom and that gives you stress first thing in the morning, start there. If you have a storage closet that just drives you absolutely crazy, start there. Whatever it is that bothers you the most.
Equipment to Have on Hand:
Trash bags. Sturdy ones for the trash, but also you can take donations in them.
Cardboard boxes are always helpful for things that you're going to take to consignment. Or if you're planning a garage sale, then you can put things in, label them and stack them up and get them ready.
Markers, get some good sharpies out and ready to go so you can label what you're doing.
Now dig in:
If you start with your closet, look at your clothes. If you haven’t worn something in a year, you should consider letting it go. Why didn’t you wear, for example, this sweater. You typically wear 20 percent of your clothes 80 percent of the time. You could probably declutter 80 percent of your closet and you wouldn't even hardly notice.
Chaos in our homes can cost us so much emotionally. There are a lot of people who would rather escape their home because it's so stressful to be there. There's so much stuff, so much clutter, so much chaos that they escape, they leave, they go out and go shopping or do other things like that, instead of staying at home and making it a restful place. Our home should really be a haven. So take the time to make it a restful place!
