Today we're going to address the issue of paper. Most households and businesses have way too much paper! Our desks are piled with it. Our filing cabinets are stuffed with it. Our bulletin boards are overflowing with it. When you are sorting through paperwork, digging through piles, reviewing school papers or opening your mail, ask yourself these simple questions:
  • Can I find this information online?
  • Do I already have a digital copy of this?
  • Can I scan this in and store a digital copy?
  • Is this a mailing I can unsubscribe to (newspapers, magazines, catalogs, etc.)?
  • Can I sign up for paperless billing and receive my phone or utility bill online?
  • Can I file the digital copy (e-mail, online order receipt, etc.) instead of printing this?
  • Can I scan or take a digital photo of this memorabilia or artwork?
  • If I throw this away and discover later that I need it, can it easily be recreated?
If the answer is YES, get rid of the paper! The less paper you have in your home or workplace, the less overwhelming it is. Too much paper weighs us down mentally and emotionally and creates a backlog of work. Free up your time and mental energy by saying goodbye to excess paper!
