Professional organizing is a relatively “new” profession… less than 40 years in the making, but gaining in popularity in the past 10-15 years. Being an electrician was a “new” profession in the late 1870s also. Now, most people wouldn’t even think of re-wiring their own home.
So… How do you know when you need to hire a professional? How do you know when to hire a professional car repairman or a professional hair stylist?
You could take the time, money and energy to learn how to do it yourself. I mean, replacing your roof cannot be THAT hard, right?!? You could Google it or check out eHow for step-by-step directions. You could check a book out from the library and practice cutting your own hair in your spare time. Or… you could hire a professional.
According to dictionary.com, a “professional” is a person who is expert at his or her work. The reason why you would call in a professional is because you need EXPERT help. Hiring someone who has already done the research, learned the skill and performs it daily would save you a significant amount of time (learning curve) and money (time is money, right?). Sure, some people may be more adept at learning a skill and can handle the situation without an expert. Most people are too busy or too tired to take the time and energy to learn it on their own. So, they hire a professional.
When to hire a professional organizer:
1. You do not possess the knowledge or skill set to do it yourself.
2. You have tried to get organized on your own many times and failed.
3. You are too busy to do it on your own.
4. You need someone to help you make decisions and hold you accountable.
5. You are in a life transition and need expert guidance on how to organize this phase of life.
6. Your organizing systems are not working anymore and you need help setting up new ones.
One of our main jobs as a professional organizer is to transfer the skill of organizing. Our goal is that when we leave, you have enough knowledge and skill to maintain it on your own.
So, get down off of the roof & give us a call! We are your organizing experts & we’d love to help!
